The axis on which our story turns is baby LaFayette DeFord Johns born in 1851 to Philp Johns, a first generation German immigrant, and Lavina DeFord Johns, a forth generation American, already of mixed European lineage, primarily French and Scotch-Irish.
We journey backward and forward, braiding his father Philip’s life with contemporary branches, and one American Revolution patriot, ending with our latest 3 year old little boy, though key moments in American history. This is the active part of the mystery which lives in all United States
